DAY 7 SATURDAY JUNE 23 SIGNAL HILL & ST. JOHN'S
Our final tour was a half day spin around the St. John's area
It was a beautiful day to view St. John's and the "Narrows"from Signal Hill
Cabot Tower built in 1897 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of John Cabot's discovery of Newfoundland
On December 12th 1901 Guglielmo Marconi received the first transatlantic wireless transmission
"Humpty Dumpty" sat on the wall
Before leaving we took a group photo
We continued our tour driving by a number of the cities landmarks including the Basilica, The Rooms and the University. We made a stop on the south shore to view the Marina and The Battery
Looking across to "The Battery"
Back at the hotel it was time to say goodbye to Gary. He has driven perfectly for 7 days. You couldn't meet a nicer man and his presence has added enjoyment to our tour
The afternoon was free time before getting together for a farewell dinner in the hotel. Helen & I decided to walk to Gower St and photograph the many Jelly Bean Houses
In the evening McCarthy's hosted a farewell dinner. It was the culmination of a memorable holiday for all. It was impossible to heap sufficient praise on our expert tour guide, John Warren. His knowledge of the island and it's people, customs and quirks left us feeling closer to this wonderful province. Mrs McCarthy joined us and gave the group her genuine thanks for choosing McCarthy's Party. It is without doubt that this group will recommend McCarthy's to future tourist and who knows return for a second visit.
