DAY 6 JUNE 22 BAY BULLS & CAPE SPEAR
After a 2 hour coach ride we reached Bay Bulls. Everyone was hopeful about seeing Puffins and Whales
Before boarding O'Brien's "Atlantic Puffin" we had time to fool around in the harbour. Here's a shot of McCarthy's two "Bay Bulls"
We left the shelter of the harbour hoping we would not encounter too much chop once we reached the headland
Ahead, the island where the birds nested
Reaching the island it was an unbelievable sight. I have never seen so many birds in one place. Boy! did we see Puffins, Murres, Gulls and even Fulmars
Spectacular headland
To ward off sea sickness I drank a bottle of Screech!
Leaving the birds we went in search of the elusive Humpback Whale
There was another boat in the area and the two Captains radioed each other as they followed the path of the whales
Despite the difficulty of photographing the whales everyone on onboard was excited to see even a fin or dorsal
It was time to head back to Bay Bulls for lunch
After lunch we drove to Cape Spear, the most easterly point in North America. Unfortunately the fog had rolled in spoiling the view
The map shows what we "Mist"
We did not linger at Cape Spear so we arrived early at our Hotel, the Delta St. John's
